October Updates

Dear Parents,

I can't believe we are half way through October! Our trip to Drumlin Farm last Friday was great! We had a wonderful time seeing the different animals that live on the farm and exploring the surrounding nature.

At the end of this month, a costume parade is being planned for the boys and girls. More details will follow on day and times of the parade.

We have begun the process of switching classrooms for Reading and the boys and girls are excited to read! We will be working on Fundations to further improve our phonics. Not only will we be reading and working on our phonics but we will be working on reading comprehension and fluency by retelling stories they have read.

Notices will be coming home in regards to parent conferences with their child's reading teacher. You will be asked to choose a time that is convenient for you. Teachers will try to accommodate around your schedules.

In our science unit, we are learning about the parts of a plant and trees. We will be exploring trees and plants on the playground while taking pictures with our iPads. The children have also been taking notes, drawing, and labeling parts of plants in their science journals. Here are some pictures of the children working in their science journals.

Here are some pictures of the boys and girls working on academic conversations which include students showing their ability to listen, respect, support and connect.

Mrs. Lamprey, the English Language Learners teacher, and I are working together in the afternoons to teach and talk about our different cultures. We would love to have parents volunteer to come in to read to the students and share more about their cultures and traditions. The times that we meet in afternoons are from 12:45pm - 1:30pm. If you are interested and available, please send me an e-mail and we can coordinate a day and time for you to come in and read to the students.

Thank you,
Mrs. Ski
